A-CINCH Summer School 2022 in Leeds

Augmented Cooperation in education and training In Nuclear and Radiochemistry

The A-CINCH project invites you to its inaugural summer school, giving high school students from across the EU a taster of the nuclear and radiochemistry sector, including the wide variety of careers available. This residential summer school is scheduled for the 10th-14th of July 2022 at the University of Leeds, in Leeds, UK.

The summer school is aimed at 16-18 year old high school students with an interest in science, engineering or who would simply like a greater insight into working life in the nuclear or radiochemistry sectors. A wide range of activities are planned including:

  • Lab-based and VR activities including nuclear energy, nuclear waste, nuclear forensics, environmental monitoring and nuclear medicine
  • A tour of the radiochemistry lab at the University of Leeds
  • Panel discussion event with recent graduates in the field
  • Career presentations from academics and industry experts
  • Group assignments with prizes for outstanding work
  • Site visit to Springfields Fuels Ltd and the National Nuclear Laboratories (NNL) facilities at Preston, UK

 

School Structure

Students will stay four nights at the University if Leeds' halls of residence, Devonshire Hall, Cumberland Rd, Headingley, Leeds LS6 2EQ. Catering is fully provided, including one evening meal at a local restaurant.

- The school includes a series of seminars, panel discussions, lab work, virtual reality activities and a group task and presentation, all of which will all take place on campus at the School of Process and Chemical Engineering.

- Included is a one-day excursion to Springfield Fuels / National Nuclear Laboratory, Preston PR4 0XJ, UK.

- An evening social activity (ten pin bowling) is also included.

- A certificate of participation will be presented to all students upon completion of the course and prizes will be awarded for best project work.

Board and accommodation for the duration of the school is fully funded (co-funded by the European Commission under the Euratom Research and Training Programme on Nuclear Energy within the Horizon 2020 Programme)

The deadline for registration has been extended until 24th of June 2022.
